the Liar tarot deck I made also features a full-art tuck box:

however, it took me a while to get to this final version

when I was still doing my daily artwork challenge, I used one day to mock-up a potential box for all the Liar tarot deck cards:

and an alt version:

mind you that at this stage printing the full tarot deck was not in my mind yet. I think that came a year later, and I eventually discarded the initial designs for some box art that would enclose the whole box:

there’s a lot to explain here:

  • as mentioned, Liar is sitting on a throne, something forbidden in his world
  • he’s also been here twice: first to write HER on the throne, and a second time to cover it up with is signature phrase “Liar was HERe”
  • on the side of the throne there’s Liar’s walking stick
  • there are bottles, or cups, scattered throughout all the books on the ground
  • speaking of all the books and parchments, Liar has probably read and scribbled on all of them
  • the stone on the left (or back of the box) features the card back design, some kind of alchemical symbol
  • the sword has the “PREMEDITATIO MALORUM” phrase etched on it. is it the sword used to kill THE EMPRESS?
  • at the top, we can see the “pyramid eye” symbol, a recurring theme in Liar’s lore, as seen in THE EMPEROR

here’s how the box turned out with the first proof copy:

as I’m writing this, I’m waiting to order the second proof copy without seal (the broken thing at the top of the box). I also want a matte finish

here’s a preliminary sketch I’ve recovered from my HDD:

I also used Blender to set up the scene in 3D:
